PM-3133-100-MTCP 3-phase Smart Power Meter features high measurement accuracy, and it is suited for the current measurement on the primary side carrying low voltage and the secondary side carrying medium and high voltage. These capabilities enable the acquisition of reliable and accurate data on energy consumption, as well as real-time monitoring and equipment operation. PM-3133-100-MTCP provides clip-on CT with a maximum current input of 400 A and a wide range of voltage input from 10 to 500 VAC, ensuring its voltage compatibility in countries with varying standards. In this case study, PM-3133-100-MTCP directly transmits data on the cooling system‘s energy consumption to the control center computer through Modbus TCP.

MDC-714 Modbus Data Concentrator offers numerous communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232, and RS-485. The internal shared memory has four tables to store AI, AO, DI, and DO registers, respectively, and each table can store up to 9600 registers. The MDC-714 accepts Modbus TCP masters to directly read/write data from/to the shared memory, making the data transmitted in Modbus RTU sharable to multiple Modbus TCP masters.

The data, that is read back from different slave devices, will be combined into a continuous address format. The address format allows the host computer to read back the data of multiple slave devices at one time, which can replace the previous polling method and save the time of reading devices.

An MDC-714 has 4 RS-485 serial communication ports, and each RS-485 single multi-drop network allows up to 32 Modbus RTU modules. Hence, MDC-714 is ideally suited to collect data from multiple Modbus modules in areas requiring multiple monitoring points – such as data centers.

AVEVA Edge, a comprehensive software offering interoperability, is capable of developing full-featured HMI and SCADA applications. Additionally, AVEVA Edge supports all Windows runtime platforms. In this case, InduSoft Web Studio functions available in AVEVA Edge, together with HMI, are mainly used to provide the client with an easy-to-use & user-friendly HMI. Hence, the integration of data acquisition and industrial control & communication is achieved at once. Afterward, data collected from the equipment, network, and service layers are integrated for analysis and data visualization. Offerings include full charts, data storage, and other functions. Besides, through the connection with GTM-204M-4GE, alarm notifications can be sent in real time to administrators’ mobile devices in the event of equipment abnormalities.

GTM-204M-4GE Industrial 4G Modem offers 2G/3G/4G wireless connection for data transmission, allowing a variety of PLC and PC applications to take advantage of SMS and 4G/3G/2G connectivity. Considering security threats in this application, sending notifications through emails or LINE messages via the internet is not adopted once anomalies of server cabinets’ surroundings are detected. Therefore, GTM-204M-4GE is deployed instead to send alarm notifications to administrators, improving data security.

Benefits:

  • iSN-100 Liquid Leak Detection Module series and M-7051D-G DI Module provide the built-in dual watchdog timer. Through Host Watchdog settings, smooth communication between the host and the I/O module can be ensured. At the same time, the pre-configured safe value serves as a contingency mechanism when the I/O module does not receive commands from the host.

  • MDC series – the Modbus Data Concentrator supports the CSV configuration file – allows editing in the Excel worksheet or plain text file. Users can change the read/write register of Modbus RTU in the CSV file and then import the file into the MDC series to update multiple slaves’ read/write register of Modbus RTU at once. This capability makes device management more time-saving and efficient.

  • PM-3000 Smart Power Meter series supports various protocols, including Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, EtherNet/IP, and CANopen. Users can choose the suited Smart Power Meter according to the protocols used in the field.

Power Meter Concentrator (PMC) Series offers comprehensive and flexible integration capabilities for power meter modules. The product series reads and logs real-time information on power consumption measured by power meters. Its built-in IF-THEN-ELSE statement provides the execution of automated logic stably and efficiently. Once abnormal equipment voltage or current is detected, alarm notifications can be delivered in real time via emails, SMS, and LINE/WeChat messages to notify management staff.

Not every SCADA system has a power analysis function or interface. This is where the PMC series comes in handy. PMC series provides a built-in web server and statistical analysis of energy data, allowing administrators to access energy information via the browser for analysis—no additional costs incurred by software development.

PMC-2241M is equipped with two Ethernet Ports, meaning it has two IP addresses. One IP address is for the control center connection, and another independent IP address is for the PM series connection. Thus, the subnetwork is built for data protection. When the disconnection of the SCADA system in the control center happens, PMC-2241M’s communication with power meters and IF-THEN-ELSE statement still function in the normal operating state. This capability tackles the problem of unexpected events. Once PMC-2241M reconnects the SCADA system, its data recovery function allows for data transmission back to the control center, ensuring data completeness.

NS-205 Unmanaged 5-port Industrial Ethernet Switch integrates data transmitted in Modbus RTU/TCP, sending it to PMC-2241M Power Meter Concentrator. The data is then sent to SCADA systems for analysis, storage, and charting, visualizing the data for convenient data management and monitoring.
